Jamshedpur: Tata Football Academy started its campaign on a winning note, defeating Mumbai FC 2-0 while Shillong Lajong FC held Sesa Football Academy 1-1 in Group C and B ties respectively in the Under-20 I-League here on Friday. In the Group B match played at Gopal Maidan here, TFA, which was playing the I-league after a gap of five years, surged ahead in the third minute into the match through its striker Manas Sarkars goal.
Sarkar converted a measured pass sent by forward Udanta Singh, leaving the Mumbai FC stunned. As TFA started building up pressure on the opponent, Sarkar netted in the 22nd minute off a Biswajit Sardar pass from the left flank.
Sarkar headed home on receiving a crosspiece from left flank off Sardar, who himself sent a powerful shot from top of the box, but the Mumbai FCs goalkeeper brilliantly saved just before the lemon-break. Mumbai FC struggled to bounce back into the match and opened up opportunities at least a couple of times closely but shot wide off the target on each occasion.
In another match of Group C encounter at JRD Tata Sports Complex, Shillong Lajong put up a brilliant show holding Sesa Football Academy 1-1. Sesas George Dsouza put the team into the lead two minutes into the second half after both the teams were locked goalless at the breather. Dsouza converted the opportunity on the 47th minute after the ball deflected from rivals defender.
Shillong Lajong, which exhibited brilliant pass game, put their act together and raided the Sesas citadel but failed to fetch the equalizer. The North-east teams lalrwat Fela capitalize a mid-field pass dribbling past Seas defense line before netting the equalizer in the 76th minutes.
