'The Goalkeeper is so Poor': Liverpool Legend Slams Chelsea's Robert Sanchez
Chelsea suffered 1-2 defeat at the hands of Liverpool in a Premier League clash on Sunday.

Former England footballer Jamie Carragher has slammed Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez after his underwhelming performance in the Premier League game against Liverpool on Sunday. Liverpool secured a 2-1 victory in the dramatic fixture at Anfield.

Curtis Jones scored the winner for the hosts in the 51st minute after having earlier won a penalty too in the first half which Mohamed Salah converted to put Liverpool in front.

Jones showcased excellent ball control during the second goal. He received an aerial pass from Salah inside the box and slotted it home from close range.

According to Carragher, Sanchez had enough time to win the ball following the first touch by Jones. The ex-Liverpool defender also criticised Chelsea’s Reece James for allowing Jones to make the run.

During a post-match analysis on Sky Sports, Carragher suggested that Chelsea should consider signing a new goalkeeper as a replacement for Sanchez to improve their overall performance.

“It’s so poor from Chelsea’s point. Reece James ambles in there. The goalkeeper is so poor. It was a poor touch from Curtis Jones really, and it’s poor from the goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez,” Carragher said.

“Sanchez has got to go and win that ball. Jones should be terrified that a goalkeeper is coming towards him. You have got to get there and hope it hits you in the face and you keep it out. Chelsea need a new goalkeeper if they want to get back to where they want to be,” Carragher added.

Former Chelsea player Craig Burley too raised question about Sanchez being the first-choice goalkeeper this season.

“Robert Sanchez for me takes a lot of chances with the ball at his feet. He’s been caught out several times this season playing stupid hospital passes out from the back,” Burley said on ESPN.

“Martinez has to be very careful that he picks his moment because Liverpool are a smart side. They’ve been pressing and pressing since Klopp came in. It might be a little bit different now under Arne Slot, but they’re clever. They’ll watch it, and they’ll wait to pounce at the right time,” Burley added.

Following the away defeat to Liverpool, Chelsea remain sixth in the Premier League standings with 14 points. Liverpool, on the other hand, are placed at the top spot, having won seven of their eight Premier League matches so far this season.
