Wary of Argentina, Brazil take their own water
Wary of Argentina, Brazil take their own water
The Selecao won't be taking any risks this time around.

New Delhi: The Brazilian national team will take their own water supply to the World Cup qualifier against arch-rivals Argentina in Rosario on Saturday to prevent contamination, it was reported.

Years ago Diego Maradona confessed on an Argentine television programme that during the 1990 World Cup in Italy, Argentina contaminated a Brazilian water bottle with tranquillizers, in order to get an advantage over their opponents on the football field.

Argentina won the match 1-0 and in doing so eliminated Brazil from the tournament.

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) have since said that such a thing didn't take place, but the Brazilians still believe so.

However, Rodrigo Paiva, the leading press officer of the Brazilian Football Association (CBF), denied claims that Brazil were afraid that it could happen again, by affirming that to take one's own water to a match "is something normal. It isn't because it is Argentina."

The rivalry between South America's two most successful teams is so intense that anything is possible.

What's your reaction?
