Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom trailer explored Arthur Curry's family dynamics while shining a spotlight on Aquaman's nemesis, Black Manta.

Warner Bros. is all geared up for the upcoming release of Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom. The latest superhero instalment is just a few weeks away from hitting theatres. Ahead of the sequel’s premiere on December 22, 2023, the makers have unleashed a new trailer, offering a deeper insight into Arthur Curry’s journey and his son. The preview highlights Jason Momoa’s role as a father to a son who also has the unique ability to communicate with marine life. Director James Wan’s sequel hints at exploring Curry’s family dynamics while shining a spotlight on Aquaman’s rival, Black Manta, portrayed by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.

The new trailer takes viewers into Arthur’s world as he introduces his son to the wonders beneath the waves. It also unveils more of Manta’s mission for revenge against the King of Atlantis. The footage leans heavily into action, gripping battle sequences between Aquaman and Black Manta. This action packed preview promises a high octane showdown, reviving the essence of the original Aquaman film. Meanwhile, the movie will mark DCEU’s end, setting the stage for upcoming projects created by Peter Safran and James Gunn’s DC Universe.

The official synopsis read, “Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction."

The return of Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman brings a new dimension to his character, while Patrick Wilson reprises his role as Orm, Arthur’s half brother. Amber Heard returns as Mera, the Queen of Atlantis. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, who is back to avenge his father’s death by targeting Aquaman, his family and Atlantis. Nicole Kidman makes a comeback as Atlanna, a tough leader. Additionally, Dolph Lundgren portrays King Nereus, while Randall Park reprises his role as Dr Stephen Shin.

Amid multiple petitions seeking Amber Heard’s removal from Aquaman 2 due to her legal battle with Johnny Depp, her presence was minimal in the initial teaser and she was absent from the latest trailer. Director James Wan disclosed in an interview with EW in September that Heard’s character would have a smaller part in the upcoming movie compared to the first movie. The filmmaker had clarified that the decision wasn’t made due to her legal issues but he focused on showing bromance between Orm and Aquaman for the sequel.

Jason Momoa starrer Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom is scheduled to release on December 22, 2023.
