Singer Billie Eilish On Coming Out: ‘Never Really Felt Like A Woman’
Billie Eilish conveyed her belief that coming out isn't something she particularly endorses.

Popular American singer-songwriter Billie Eilish has confirmed that she unintentionally revealed her identity as queer in a recent interview. Expressing her lack of awareness that the conversation would be perceived as a coming-out narrative, the bad guy singer reportedly shared her surprise during the Variety Hitmakers Brunch red carpet event, stating, “I didn’t know I was coming out, but I kinda thought, wasn’t it obvious? I didn’t realize people didn’t know. I just don’t really believe in it. I’m just like, ‘Why can’t we just exist’? I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I just didn’t talk about it.”

Reflecting on the article that inadvertently disclosed her orientation, Eilish laughed and remarked, “I saw the article, and I was like, ‘Oh, I guess I came out today!'” She conveyed her belief that coming out isn’t something she particularly endorses, emphasising the desire for people to coexist without the need for explicit declarations. Eilish, who has been navigating her identity privately, acknowledged the public’s newfound awareness, affirming, “I am for the girls,” reports Page Six.

In November, in the Variety Power of Women cover story, the 21-year-old artist openly discussed her physical attraction to women, coupled with feelings of intimidation by their beauty and presence. On the red carpet, Eilish humorously acknowledged her lingering apprehension towards women but expressed admiration, saying, “I’m still scared of women, but I think they’re pretty,” reports Variety.

Speaking to Variety about her feelings for women, Eilish further said, “I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well. I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real.”

The Grammy-winning superstar’s romantic history includes relationships with various well-known individuals, including rapper Brandon Adams, known as 7:AMP, as featured in the documentary ‘Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry.’

Discussing their breakup, she candidly mentioned her unhappiness in the relationship, emphasising differing priorities. Subsequently, Eilish dated Jesse Rutherford, the lead singer of The Neighbourhood, with whom she eventually parted ways, Page Six writes.

Post-breakup, Eilish was also reportedly spotted in a close moment with Love, Victor fame actress Ava Capri, who also identifies as queer.

During the Hitmakers event, the singer, along with her brother Finneas, was honored with the Film Song of the Year award for What Was I Made For, featured in the blockbuster film Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.
