Do you need Xbox Live to play Fortnite?
You don't need Xbox Live to play Fortnite. In the past, you needed a subscription for Xbox Live to play online with friends. Fortnite remains a free-to-play game (with paid features), so you don't need to worry about a subscription. Additionally, PlayStation players don't need a PlayStation Plus subscription to play Fortnite. You'll still need to sign up for an Epic Games account to keep your progress and enable cross-play.
Downloading Fortnite on Xbox
Open the Microsoft Store. You can find this in the My Games & apps tile on the home screen. Be sure to select the Apps section.
Select Search. You can use the menu on the left or the search bar at the top of the page.
Enter fortnite and search. It will load in the results.
Select Install. Fortnite will begin installing. You can see the progress in the Quick Menu underneath Manage.
Log into your Epic Games account. Enter your email address and password for your Epic Games account. Once you're logged in, you can begin playing.
