Hulu Is Experiencing Technical Difficulties
Check Hulu's server status. Not every technical issue is due to your device. Hulu may be experiencing technical issues on their end. There are many websites that track the server status of various online services. You can use Downdectector.com or Isitdownrightnow.com to check to see if Hulu is currently experiencing any outages or technical issues. Enter "Hulu" in the search bar and see if there are any reported outages or technical issues.
Internet Connection Issues
Run an internet speed test. Hulu requires an internet speed of a minimum of 1.5 Mbps, with a recommended speed of at least 3 Mbps to watch their streaming library. Live video requires a speed of 8 Mbps, and 4K video requires a speed of 16 Mbps. You can test your internet speed using Google, or websites like Speedtest.net and Fast.com. If your internet speed isn't fast enough, you may need to take steps to improve your internet speed.
Restart your router. One way to fix internet and connection issues is to power cycle your modem or router. To do so, unplug your router for about 2 minutes. Then plug it back in and wait a minute for it to fully boot back up. Then try Hulu again.
Shut down other devices using your internet. If you have a house full of people using their devices all at the same time, this can slow down your internet connection. Limit the number of people using devices at the same time. Make sure no one else is gaming or watching movies on their devices.
Turn off your VPN. Hulu is only available in the US and US territories. If you are using a VPN, it could be tricking Hulu into thinking you are watching outside the US. In this case, you could be running into geo-restriction issues. A VPN can also slow down your internet connection. Turn off your VPN and try Hulu again.
Use a wired connection. Connect your streaming device directly to your modem or router using an ethernet cable. Using a wired connection provides a faster and more stable internet connection than using Wi-Fi.
App Issues
Close and restart the app. If there are glitches that are causing the app to crash, you may be able to fix them by exiting the app and restarting it. Make sure the app fully closes. Then launch it again.
Update the Hulu app. You can generally check for updates using the app store on your streaming device. Make sure you are running the latest version of the app.
Clear the Hulu app cache. This removes temporary files and data from your device and clears up space. The way you do this is different from one device to another. Typically, you can do this in the Settings menu under the Apps or Storage section.
Uninstall and reinstall Hulu. If your Hulu app has become corrupt, you can delete it from your device and then reinstall it from the app store on your streaming device. This will also clear the cache and install the latest version.
Device Issues
Restart your streaming device. If there are glitches and bugs in the firmware for your streaming device, you may be able to resolve these issues by restarting your device. Turn off your streaming device and unplug it for about 1 minute. Then plug it back in and power it on. Try Hulu again.
Update your device. If the firmware for your device is not up-to-date, there could be bugs and problems that need to be patched out. Update your streaming device. You can generally do so in the Settings menu.
Close any background apps. If you have a bunch of apps running in the background, it could be eating up memory and processing power, which will cause apps to slow down or crash. Close any background apps that you are not using.
Free up storage space. If the storage space on your device is almost full, there may not be enough storage space for the app to buffer, save a cache, or additional data. Delete some apps that you no longer use. If you have videos and pictures stored on your device, back them up to another device and delete some of them.
Try using a different streaming device. It could be possible that Hulu is not compatible with your streaming device. If you have an older streaming device, it's possible newer versions of Hulu are not supported on your device. Try watching Hulu on a different device. If you are watching on a smart TV, try using a gaming console or streaming box, such as FireTV or Roku. You can also try connecting a laptop to your TV with an HDMI cable and watching from your laptop, or try casting from your smartphone to your TV.
