Hyderabad Metro Reaches Old City After Six-Year Delay, CM Reddy Says Move to Benefit Poor
The chief minister has promised that none of the identified 103 religious, heritage and other sensitive structures in Old City will be adversely impacted by the project

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy laid the foundation stone for a Metro line in Old City on Friday, a project on hold by the previous BRS-led government for almost six years.

The route poses various challenges like thick population, protection of heritage structures, road widening and relocation of street vendors and was changed multiple times under BRS. The chief minister has promised that none of the identified 103 religious, heritage and other sensitive structures in Old City will be adversely impacted by the project.

After the stone-laying ceremony, Reddy said: “This is not Old City. This is original Hyderabad city. The government is working hard for the comprehensive development of the original city. We are also preparing a master plan to develop the Musi riverfront.”

He added: “Constructing Metro Phase-2 will benefit the poor and middle classes. The metro rail services will be extended from Owaisi Hospital, Chandrayangutta, and Mylardevarpally to the airport. A metro junction will be set up at Chandrayangutta.”

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, who was present on the occasion, said his party will extend all possible cooperation towards completing the project. The leader’s party was earlier accused by the Congress of posing hurdles in the project.

As part of the Hyderabad Metro Rail phase-II expansion, the following corridors are being built:

Miyapur-Chandanagar-BHEL-Patancheruvu (14 km).

MGBS-Falaknuma-Chandrayanagutta-Mailardevpalli-P7 Road-Airport (23 km).

Nagole–LBNagar-Owaisi Hospital-Chandrayangutta-Mailardevepalli-Aramgarh-New High Court site at Rajendranagar on NH (19 km).

Extension of Corridor-III from Raidurg station to Financial District (Wipro lake Jn/American consulate) via Biodiversity Jn, IIIT Jn and ISB road (12 km).

LB Nagar-Vansathalipuram-Hayatnagar (8 km).
