Breaking the phrase Jyotirlinga yields the words “Jyothi” which means radiance, and “linga” which means phallus. It is said that these Jyotirlingas are several forms that Lord Shiva has taken on. Hindu pilgrims travel from all over the country to see each of the 12 Jyotirlingas, which are situated in key spots throughout India, as part of their spiritual quest. Other than granting spiritual reckoning and blessings, these sanctums are utterly beautiful and peaceful. IRCTC offers several packages to people travelling to these Jyotirlingas. But can you imagine cycling across all of India and visiting the 12 Jyotirlingas?
Gajanand, a resident of Madhya Pradesh is doing exactly so in the holy month of Kartika. He started the cycle trip on April 25 this year and has already visited 7 Jyotirlingas. Gajanand spoke to News 18 while passing through Komarolu in Prakasam district on his way to Rameswaram to visit Srisailam Mallikarjuna Swamy. He said that the main purpose of his cycle trip was to spread the feeling of devotion among the people. He said that seven Jyotirlingas had already been visited.
Gajanand added that as news about his hike has spread, villagers come to meet him as he cycles past the areas. He also said that it would take him around 4 months to visit the remaining 5 Jyotirlingas.
According to Gajanand, the idea struck him after an extremely tough and challenging time he faced during the coronavirus pandemic. He further said that it was through divine intervention and his belief in God that he overcame his difficulties during that time. He therefore decided to devote an entire year to God and cycle to the 12 Jyotorlingas to show his devotion as well as spread the feeling of devotion among other people.
The 12 Jyotirlingas are spread across Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
