MADURAI: A four-member gang, including two from AP, were arrested and 110 kg of ganja worth Rs. 34 lakh was seized at Vadipatti near here on Monday.Additional Superintendent of Police Myilvaganan said that when the police were involved in vehicle check up at Sholavandan, they tried to stop an Innova car. However, the vehicle did not stop and fled from the spot. Vadipatti police were alerted and the car was stopped at Pandiarajapuram railway gate near Vadipatti, he said. Police seized 55 bundles of ganja, each weighing 2 kg from the car, estimated at Rs. 34 lakh, Myilvaganan said. Car driver Venkatesh Babu (34), of Sammattipuram, Deivendran (44), of Andipatti, and two from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Malanna (42), and Baburao alias Bandanna (36), were also arrested by police. The interrogation revealed that they were buying ganja at bulk from AP-Orissa border and were involved in distributing across TN, he said.The accused were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and were remanded. Police were also looking out for other gang members, Palpandi, Mathialagan, Kumar and Veeranan, Myilvaganan said.
