HYDERABAD: Police nabbed two persons at IS Sadan on Tuesday and seized a consignment of gelatin sticks and detonators which were being illegally transported by them from Nalgonda district. The seized explosives include 200 kgs of gelatine sticks and 32 bundles of electric detonators. The explosives were seized while police were carrying out intensified checking since the recent Mumbai terror attacks."The explosives came unaccounted from IDL Industrial Explosives located at Chityal in Nalgonda district and doesn't appear to be stolen," city police commissioner A K Khan told reporters on Tuesday. Police are yet to ascertain where the consignment was being transported to.The two nabbed are D Srinivas of Vanasthalipuram and V Yadaiah of IS Sadan. Srinivas hails from Nalgonda district and runs a tyre retreading shop at Vanasthalipuram.Five years ago, he worked with a person Ranga Reddy of Vanasthalipuram who was into illegal sale of explosives. As Srinivas was incurring losses in his retreading business, he started getting explosives from his old friend, allegedly Raju, on a large scale illegally."The same used to be supplied to Yadaiah, an ex-private contractor for GHMC. Yadaiah worked as a labourer and later used to sell explosive material to stone quarry workers to recover from his losses," Khan said.Meanwhile, police are tracking possibilities of these explosives being used in anti-national activities. The duo were handed over to Kanchanbagh police for further action.Khan said that police would focus on explosive dealers in the city and four teams would be formed to check their licences.
