2G scam: CBI to file chargesheet by March 31
SC asked the Government to constitute a special court to deal with the 2G case.

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will file the first chargesheet in the multi-crore 2G spectrum scam case by March 31. The investigating agency told the apex court on Thursday that Kalaignar TV has not been cooperating with the investigations while the Enforcement Directorate said that 25 people were being investigated in connection with scam.

Claiming that some public sector banks deviated from their internal guidelines to extend loans to telecom companies, the CBI said that deviations were sanctioned by chairpersons of the banks.

CBI also blamed former telecom minister A Raja for being responsible for 2G spectrum scam.

The Supreme Court observed that investigation into the 2G spectrum scam should also cover culpability of beneficiaries of the scam as they are part of larger conspiracy. The apex court also asked Attorney General Goolam E Vahanvati to tell the Government to constitute a special court exclusively for dealing with the 2G spectrum case.

The court also ordered that no other court in the country shall pass an order staying proceedings in the case.

Raja, his personal secretary RK Chandolia, former telecom secretary Siddharth Behuria and DB Realty MD Shahid Usman Balwa have already been arrested in the case.
