WARANGAL: A leopard wreaked havoc in Damera village in Atmakur mandal on Saturday night injuring three persons who tried to prevent it from attacking a herd of sheep. However, the leopard killed a sheep.
The villagers tried to trap it but it escaped. The leopard appeared again in the village in the wee hours of Sunday and this frightened the villagers. Presently, armed police are keeping guard of the village. The panther, which sneaked into the village from nearby hillocks, attacked a herd of sheep at Kattula Sammaiah's house all of a sudden on Saturday night and killed one of the animals. On hearing the cries of other animals, three shepherds Pidugu Lakshman, Pidugu Siddu and Pidugu Gattu, who were sleeping in nearby houses rushed out.Initially, they could not identify the animal which attacked the sheep as it was dark but as they went near the flock of animals, they identified it as a panther. And soon the leopard pounced on the trio.

It attacked Lakshman first and he suffered injuries. Siddu and Gattu confronted with the animal. Catching it by its neck and ears, they tried to save themselves but the panther bit them on their hands and escaped from the place. "Initially, we thought that dogs attacked the sheep. But as the cries continued for some more time, we came out but could not identify it as a leopard till we reached near it and soon the animal left the sheep and attacked us," Siddu narrated.
