Six persons between 22 and 45 years of age were arrested for murdering a 37-year-old lorry driver over a land dispute, in Ongapadi village, in the Veppankuppam police station on Thursday.
Madhi, a resident of Ongapadi, was beaten to death by Karunakaran, Santhosh, Shankar, Ramani, Thulasiraman and Arunkumar, following a dispute over a piece of land adjacent to the deceased’s house. Police said Santhosh and five of his relatives brutally attacked Madhi using an iron rod. Madhi’s relatives rushed him to the Government Hospital in Ambur, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Santhosh’s father had bought a plot of vacant land adjacent to Madhi’s house. Since then, Santhosh and Madhi’s family had been involved in frequent quarrels over 1.5 feet of land between their houses. On Thursday morning, Madhi dug a pit to mark his portion of land that led to a heated argument between him and Santhosh.
In a fit of rage, Santhosh and his relatives attacked Madhi with an iron bar and injured him seriously. Following the death of Madhi, the police registered a case against the six and arrested them.
