CHENNAI: The ruling AIADMK scored the highest vote-share, 39.02 per cent, in the just-concluded elections to the local bodies (except for the posts of presidents and ward members of village panchayats) and bagged as many as 9,966 posts in the various local bodies, followed by the DMK which secured 26.1 per cent of votes and won 4,097 posts. Main opposition party DMDK placed third with 70,24,437 votes (10.11%) and won 868 posts. Though independents came third on the number of posts (3,342), they stood fourth in terms of vote-share (9.46%).While the AIADMK enhanced its performance by over 125 per cent (number of posts won) than the 2006 local body polls, the DMK’s performance has come down by about 45 per cent. The percentage of votes polled by other parties are: Congress 5.71%, PMK 3.55%, MDMK 1.7 %, BJP 1.35 %, CPI(M) 1.02 % and CPI 0.71 %.
