Mumbai: Three-year-old Arundhati Anand, who suffered severe head injuries in an accident with Shiv Sena MP Bharatkumar Raut's car on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on January 22, succumbed to her wounds on Tuesday morning in Aditya Birla Hospital, Chinchwad.
CEO of Aditya Birla Hospital Rekha Dubey said, "As Arundhati's condition was deteriorating rapidly, she was put on ventilator. She breathed her last early in the morning." Dr Umesh Phalke, who also attended to her, said that the child had suffered severe head injuries and was in coma since her admission to the hospital.
Arundhati's father Rahul Anand, who also suffered several injuries in the accident, underwent a shoulder surgery under the supervision of Dr Prashant Tonpe yesterday. "Earlier, we had decided to postpone his operation, but we finally changed our plan and went ahead with it considering his failing health," said Dr Tonpe.
Rahul's mother-in-law Shakuntala Balkrishna will also go under the knife as her right hand was fractured in the same accident. Asked about the status of the case, police inspector Mohan Jadhav, Lonavla Rural Police, said, "An accident case was registered on the day of mishap only."
He added that there was no valid reason to hold the driver of Bharatkumar Raut guilty for the mishap. For the accident happened after the front tyre of Sena leader's Honda City car burst. Jadhav said, "Considering Raut's condition, his statement was not recorded, but it will be done after few days."
