VILLUPURAM: Four cops allegedly raped four girls in a grove near Thirukovilur in Villupuram district on November 22. Victims Rani (18), Maheshwari (20), Ratimeena (17) and Vinodini (20) of a single family belonging to the Irula community lodged a complaint with Superintendent of Police, N Bhaskaran on Saturday.According to the complaint, on Nov 22, around 3pm, three policemen arrived at a hut at T Mandapam and took Kasi with them for inquiry. They asked the girls who were at home to send the head of the family, Murugan to the station.Later, Murugan and his wife, Veena along with relatives went to the Thirukovilur police station where police told them that Kasi was taken to Villupuram for inquiry. Meanwhile, policemen reached their hut and picked up the girls and 3 other children in a police vehicle.After Murugan and his relatives returned home, they noticed that all the girls were taken by the police. Four policemen were waiting near the house when the group returned and picked them up in another vehicle. All of them except Veena was dropped at the police station. After that, Veena and three cops travelled to Santhaipet. The police vehicle with the girls and children also reached Santhaipet.Four girls, three children and a policeman then occupied the vehicle along with Veena and three cops. The vehicle then reached a grove at around midnight. Four girls were asked to get down while Veena and the children were kept in the vehicle.Each policeman took a girl to different spots in the grove and raped them. Ratimeena said that she was gang raped by three cops.Of the four girls, Vinodini and Rani are married and Vinodini is pregnant. She said, “Police laid me on the ground and raped me although I told him that I was pregnant,” and added, “When I pleaded with the policeman to leave me because I was pregnant, he replied, ‘so what?’”The girls said, “The cops stuffed our mouths with cloth.” After the incident, the policemen dropped all of them at their home. Vinodini informed the Pazhangudi Irular Pathugappu Sangam on Friday and with their help, the victims filed the police complaint on Saturday. In the complaint, Vinodini also said that during the search of the house, police had taken 10 sovereigns of gold jewels, `2,000 in cash and 4 mobile phones.* Names changed to protect identity
