Five persons died in separate drowning incidents in two days in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts. While three boys died in Anwarbad Eri in Chengam in Tiruvannamalai, the other two drowned in Bathalapalli Malatar in Pernambut in Vellore district.
Police said Koteswaran (22), son of Eswaran of Chennai, his brother Ramu Kumar (18), and a relative Karthick (15), son of Sankar of Bangalore, were visiting their uncle’s house at Anwarbadpettai on Sunday to attend a family function.
On Monday morning, the trio, who did not know swimming, went bathing in Anwarbad Eri and drowned there. On seeing the boys struggle in the water, Karthick’s mother, who was washing nearby, raised an alarm. Before the neighbours could rushed to their rescue, the trio drowned. The local residents fished out the bodies and informed the Pudupalayam police.

While bathing, Dillibabu and Vivek, who did not know swimming, strayed into deep waters and drowned.
