HYDERABAD: The customs department authorities arrested a passenger at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Shamshabad on Wednesday, for attempting to smuggle in huge quantity of memory cards and Rhoduna liquid worth `43 lakh.The arrested, Golandaz Shaheed Mazhar, holding an Indian passport came from Dubai in a Jet airways flight 9W-549. At the customs check, Mazhar opted for a green channel but on specific information he was intercepted at the exit gate and checked.Air Intelligence Unit of the customs department checked his belongings and found 9,555 mobile phone memory cards of 2 GB capacity.The cards packed in small plastic bags were concealed in an emergency lamp along with a bass card reader and a plastic jar. Mazhar was also carrying 1.3 litres of Rhoduna chemical used in electroplating of gold jewellery and cigarette packets.“As the passenger failed to declare the goods which are not bonafide baggage and in commercial quantity, the same was confiscated,” customs officials said.The market value of the seized goods is `43 lakh.
