Accentuating on how the concept of politics has changed over the years, actress-cum-writer Lakshmi Priya’s latest book, Rahul Gandhi - The Great Warrior of Indian Politics consists of innovative solutions to cope with changes. The key to rapid and sustainable economic development as well as welfare of mankind in general lies in understanding fundamentally the importance of change. City Express talks to the author about her views on politics.■ Tell us about yourselfWell, I am an engineer by degree. I have also dabbled in acting and modelling but my true passion lies in writing. Currently, I am pursing a doctoral degree (PHD) in management under Dr MGR University, Chennai. I have been crowned as Miss Bangalore Brain with Beauty  2006 and have also been a contestant of Kingfisher Model Hunt, Gladrag Mega Model Hunt, Lux Style Body Diva, Ford Super Model Contest. I have also done extensive (academic-based) research on five Kannada films including U la la, Dhad-dhad, Santosha, Talwar and Keshmo’s Bang Bang Kids.■ What is the future of Indian politics?Indian politics is the new generation agenda for world politics in the area of socio-economic-cultural development. As Gandhi once said, India’s future depends on rural villages. Rural India needs the right exposure in terms of development with respect to all sectors. Caste issues still persist in various parts of the country. For instance, people belonging to the higher caste will consume beverages from steel tumblers whereas the lower caste folks have to use glass or plastic. Things haven’t changed at all since independence. C V Raman said search for problems on the street and find a solution to them, only then will India develop. Similar initiatives need to be taken. to ensure the same.■ Can you elaborate on the nature of political, social, economic, cultural and linguistic heritage of our country?Speaking strictly from a social point of view, India is an abode of caste, religion and language. With respect to politics, India is the only country that has too many national or regional parties and yet, we have unity in diversity. Also, from an economic point of view, the segregation of classes in the society has not hindered growth in any sector. My book not only discusses Rahul’s point of views but also sheds some light on our heritage.■ Tell us about your book.It is the first kind of detailed research study done on a budding politician from an academic perspective. The book discusses about Rahul’s views on rural development, transformation, dalits and tribes, globalisation-liberalisation, poverty and bonded labour — basically, the challenges that Rahul Gandhi has to face.■ Do you think Rahul Gandhi will play a keen role in our future?Absolutely. He has all the leadership qualities a politician must have. His modern vision, administrative skills, communication and connection with the youth of the country deserve much appreciation. He is in true sense a modern political guru. He has already played a vital role in educating the youth of our country. ■ What are your thoughts on sustainable development in India? With respect to Information technology and Biotechnology, India ranks high in the world. Barack Obama too has spoken many times of the ‘rapid development’ in the IT sector of Bangalore■ Any upcoming projects we need to look forward to?I am working on my second book where I will be discussing about Rahul Gandhi’s views on women empowerment, employment and security systems. I am also working on a documentary on the youth icon of India.
