HYDERABAD: The High Court direction to the CBI to probe N Chandrababu Naidu's assets could not have come at a worse time for him.
The TDP chief, who is feeling a little relieved with Telangana pressure coming off him, was trying to assert himself as a crusader against corruption and champion of farmers when the court order came as a bolt from the blue.If he was flustered with the court's direction, he did not show it but made no secret of his displeasure over the court not asking him to respond to the petition filed by YS Vijayamma that he was a venal politician.
Though it is not clear if Naidu would go in an appeal to the Supreme Court, his political managers are examining the option. Taking a decision is becoming difficult because Naidu is not sure whether he will face the same fate as YS Jagan Mohan Reddy did when he went to the Supreme Court for a stay on CBI investigation into his riches. The apex court had asked him what his objection was to a CBI inquiry into his riches if he was not guilty. As the court acted on both the petitions and ordered a CBI inquiry, the Congress appears to be having the last laugh. Its archrival, Naidu, and its latest rival, Jagan Mohan Reddy, are both in the soup now, giving it the kind of political buoyancy it has been awaiting very badly. Congress leaders are under the impression that both Jagan and Naidu would stand to lose in coastal Andhra because of the CBI is investigations.
