KODAKARA (THRISSUR): A 12-day Sagnika Athirathram, aimed at the peace and prosperity of the entire humanity and preservation of environmental equilibrium by generating positive energy waves, began at the Yagasala near the Kaimukku Mana at Mattathurkunnu here on Friday morning. A yaga in this genre is being performed after a period of about 112 years. Spiritually, it aims at cleansing the body and mind of the people at large.The three Homa Kundams were lighted at the Yagasala by Athirathram Yajamanan Kaimukku Raman Somayajippad.The Threthagni (the holy fire lit from the earlier Yaga fire) was carried from the Kaimukku Mana by Kaimukku Raman Somayajippad and Yajamana Patni Aryadevi Pathanadi in a ceremonial procession led by Veda scholars and Rithwiks to the accompaniment of Nadaswaram recital.The Yagasala for the unique and rare Athirathram in the Aaswalayana (Pakazhiyam)-Boudhayana tradition has been set up on a paddyfield near the Mana.The rites and rituals had begun in the early hours of Friday, with the Kaimukku Raman Somayajippadu and Yajamana Patni Aryadevi Pathanadi performing the usual hours-long Ishti (homam) at the Mana in its pristine purity as ordained by tradition.Acharyas Kaimukku Vaidikan Narayanan Namboodiri, Vaidikan Sreedharan Namboodiri, Cherumukku Vaidikan Vallabhan Somayaji, Bhasmathil Mekkattu Vallabhan Namboodiri, Adhwaryu Kaimukku Vaidikan Parameswaran Namboodiri (Harinan), Brahman Kadalur Sreenath Namboodiri, Hothan Naras Ittiravi Namboodiri and Sadasyan Mallissery Raman Namboodiri were among those who led the Yajamanan and the Yajamana Patni to the Yagasala.
