BANGALORE: The registration for the Unique Identification Number (UID) or Aadhar will begin from August 17 across the city in two phases. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDI) has opened counters for registration for members of the media and their families in the Press Club of Bangalore on Thursday.Principal Secretary of the Department of IT, BT and e-governance M N Vidyashankar said that the registration would be open in community halls, Banglaore One Centers, select educational institutions and other welfare organisations.He stated that they had to take up the registration in phases due to the large population of the city. He said that the Phase 1 of the enrolment would be held in Yavanika on August 17 and Phase 2 would begin on August 30.He stated that there would be provisions for enrollment from Night 10pm to 6 am in Bangalore One centres only.Informating about the statistics of other cities, Assistant Director General at Aadhaar (Karnataka) K K Sharma said that they had completed 95 per cent of enrolments in Mysore and Tumkur districts.He also stated that a total of two-and-a-half crore UID Numbers were given out across the country and they would be able to achieve the target of 600 million numbers issued within 2014, provided they get the necessary support from the state governments.
