Hyderabad: Continuing their special drive, the city police rescued around 50 child labourers, most of them hailing from West Bengal, who were being forced to work in hazardous industries here.
"So far, about 50 children have been rescued and our special drive continues. Five persons who had employed them were taken into custody and efforts are on to nab some more accused who forced these children to work," said Deputy Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana.
These children worked in workshops where gold ornaments are polished, the DCP told PTI, adding that toxic chemicals are used in this work.
Earlier, between January 24 to 31, police had rescued close to 400 child labourers, most of them coming from Bihar, who worked as bonded labourers in bangle-making units here.
Some thirty people had been arrested then.
