S Lakshman Rao, who was trapped by the sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation receiving bribe on behalf of a senior income-tax officer, was produced in the CBI special court at Visakhapatam on Monday and remanded for 14 days.

S Lakshman Rao, who was trapped by the sleuths of Central Bureau of Investigation receiving bribe on behalf of a senior income-tax officer, was produced in the CBI special court at Visakhapatam on Monday and remanded for 14 days.

The CBI arrested Lakshman Rao, maternal uncle of income tax officer P Venkateswara Rao, while accepting bribe of Rs 15 lakh at his house from an agriculturist and moneylender.

The officer demanded a bribe of Rs 65 lakh from the complainant and asked his uncle to collect the money on his behalf.

P Venkateswara Rao got himself admitted to a hospital complaining illness after the CBI had raided his houses at Kakinada, S. Kota and Visakhapatnam. CBI is likely to arrest him immediately after his discharge from the hospital.
