Mumbai: A special Court on Monday extended police custody of promoter of controversial Adarsh Housing Society, KL Gidwani, arrested by the CBI for his alleged role in the multi-crore housing scam, till March 27.
Seeking Gidwani's custody, the CBI submitted that they have to identify the high and mighty persons in the Government of Maharashtra who had allegedly dealt with the Adarsh file and for whom flats were booked in the society.
The CBI contended that during interrogation it was revealed that payment for four benami flats in the Adarsh Society was made by Gidwani through his bank.
Of these four flats, two were reserved in proxy to oblige influential persons in the state government who dealt with the concerned file during the relevant period, the agency said.
The CBI told the court that it was revealed during interrogation that Gidwani was instrumental in managing various clearances from different departments of the state government by adopting similar modus operandi which is required to be unearthed to complete the chain of criminal conspiracy.
