KOZHIKODE: Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) T P Senkumar convened a meeting of the officials of Special Branch Kozhikode Range at the Police Club here on Sunday.Though stated to be a routine one, the meeting holds much significance in the wake of the murder of Revolutionary Marxist Party(RMP) leader T P Chandrasekharan and the growing incidents of violence having communal overtones in the Northern districts. “The meeting was held to discuss all the matters pertaining to the Special Branch Crime Investigation Department,” Senkumar told reporters after the meeting.After assuming the post of ADGP(Intelligence), this is for the first time that Senkumar is holding such a meeting in Kozhikode. Police sources said the officer took stock of the functioning of the Intelligence wing in the Northern districts and charted out measures to strengthen the intelligence gathering mechanism. The ADGP also stressed the need for a total revamp of the functioning of the department, particularly in the wake of communal disturbances, growing threat of Maoist infiltration in the border regions and forests of the Northern districts and violence in and around Nadapuram in Kozhikode district and certain places in Kannur district, sources maintained.Special Branch Kozhikode SP, DYSPs from Kozhikode, Kannur and Wayanad, Inspectors, sub-inspectors and civil police officers of the department in Kozhikode range attended. Senkumar also held discussions with Kozhikode Rural SP T K Rajmohan prior to the meeting.The ADGP held a meeting with ADGP(Crimes) Winson M Paul, who is heading the Special Investigation Team probing the murder of RMP leader T P Chandrasekharan, at Vadakara on Sunday evening.
