BANGALORE: The Vijayanagar police have arrested an advocate who had allegedly confined a woman to house for about 18 months.The accused has been identified as S K Paramesh (52), a resident of Vyalikaval.Meena Vijay, alias Meenakshi Rao, a resident of Thimmenahalli in Govidarajanagar was married to Karunakar Vijay, who was the director of MVV Group of Companies and Punarvasu Commodities and Stocks.The accused, Paramesh, was the legal adviser of the company.According to the police, Karunakar, Meena, Paramesh and some others were accused in a cheating case in 2002, which was being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). In 2003, Karunakar passed away and Meena was living alone at her house in Thimmenahalli. As all the assets were in her name, Paramesh, with his wife Uma’s help, allegedly kidnapped her from her residence on February 2, 2009.Paramesh then kept her in his custody for about 18 months and in that time he allegedly harassed her and forced her to sign various documents and even siphoned off `20 lakh that was kept as fixed deposit in Malleswaram Chaitanya Co-Operative Bank. He allegedly forced her to transfer a 10 acre land in Parvathanapalya in Magadi to him. The land’s value is estimated at about `3 crore.He also allegedly transferred the ownership of Meena’s house in Thimmenahalli to his name and leased it out.Meanwhile, as Meena was an accused in the CBI case and she had not appeared for the hearings, the CBI court issued a search warrant against her.Paramesh learnt of this and produced her before the Court and got bail for her.Meena then revealed to the Court the ordeal she had been through in the past 18 months and the Court directed her to file a case against Paramesh in the police station concerned.She then filed a case in Vijayanagar police station, following which Paramesh was arrested, the police said.
