BANGALORE: The Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce (BCIC) has lauded the effort to promote the two-day Global Agribusiness and Food Processing Summit-2011  being organised by the State government on December 1 and 2 in the city. The Chamber stated that this is a good initiative to encourage and ehance growth in the agro and food processing industry. Citing agro-friendly policies of the government, it said that State has been in the forefront by announcing the agriculture and agro processing policies in the country.“Events such as Global Agribusiness and Food Processing Summit-2011 which encourage investment into the agri and food processing sector, will go a long way in establishing an efficient supply chain that links farmers and small manufacturers directly with retailers, thus maximising value for all stakeholders. Together with back-end infrastructure, this will minimise wastage (especially for fresh foods and vegetables), increase farmers’ realisations, encourage best practices in crop management and improve food safety and hygiene. Further,it will bring with it the technologies and expertise required to boost farm yields in the State,” Vinod Nowal, President BCIC said.
