‘All Women Need To Stand Together To Break Stereotypes’: Tech & Education Leaders At SheShakti 2024
At She Shakti 2024, Radhika Yuvraj Iyengar, India Director, Women in Tech Global, said girls are ‘performing well’ in the STEM field but it is a leaky pipeline when it comes to career. Due to the lack of adequate equity programmes, women don’t pursue their career, she added

Women can play an “amazing” role in the digital world as they have the power to influence, said Radhika Yuvraj Iyengar, India Director, Women in Tech Global, at CNN-News18’s She Shakti 2024 in New Delhi on Monday, adding that their role in shaping the future is much more profound now.

When asked about barriers women encounter in the tech world, Iyenger said girls are “performing well in the STEM field but it is a leaky pipeline when it comes to their career”. Due to the lack of adequate equity programme they don’t pursue the field, she added. “Equity is important. We need to tap into the potential of women. We need to get to the culture of the company. Ensure conversations should take place with everyone”.

On the impact of Covid on digitisation in the country, Iyengar said said few women managed to get opportunities post Covid. On a larger scale, Covid was not an opportunity for those as most families were struggling. “All women need to stand together to break stereotypes,” she stressed.

Shaheen Mistri, Founder & CEO, Teach For India, shared how she came back to India to help children in the field of education. “Children need good-quality education. I dropped out of university, made a phone call to my parents and told them I need to do something for the children of India. I began teaching children and that changed my life”.

When asked how women can shape education in the country, Mistri said: “Believe in yourself. No matter how big a problem is, one does not have to be angry. Love should be the core value and is the key to solving problems. My aspiration is to be kinder and more compassionate”.
