HYDERABAD: Even as speculation that the Centre might consider setting up another States Reorganisation Commission (SRC) evoked protests from Telangana protagonists, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Monday maintained that Delhi was still with an open mind.“There is no change in our position. Any decision will be taken only after consulting the eight recognised parties in Andhra Pradesh,” he told reporters when asked if SRC was an option before the Centre.Soon after the Srikrishna panel submitted its report in January this year, Chidambaram had convened a meeting with representatives of the various parties and sought their feedback. No meeting has taken place after that. “No date has been decided yet,” Chidambaram said, adding that the meeting would be held at the earliest. What has raised the hackles of T supporters was a resolution moved by the UP Congress Committee favouring an SRC to look into demands for smaller states including trifurcation of Uttar Pradesh. Many felt the UPCC could not have made such a proposal without the tacit approval of the party leadership. As if this is not enough, Union Minister D Purandeswari maintained that the Congress was always in favour of setting up a second SRC to consider statehood demands even as Telangana MPs like Madhu Yashki fumed at the proposal saying it amounted to virtually putting the T issue in cold storage. Not all Telangana Congress MPs, however, are sailing with the same view. While hardliners like Yashki and at least five others strongly believe that they should quit if the state was not granted, at least four others including Sarve Satyanarayana and Suresh Shetkar appear to be of the view that they should not take recourse to such extreme step being members of the ruling party.Rajya Sabha member K Keshava Rao, who is leading the hardliners, said they had waited for three months as suggested by the Central leadership and expected some action to be taken now. “We will meet Pranab Mukherjee to understand the latest thinking and then decide what we should do,” he told newsmen.Meanwhile, trouble continued in the Telugu Desam Party on the T front. One more legislator, Jogu Ramanna, on Monday demanded that party president Chandrababu Naidu write a letter to Mukherjee making clear the party’s stance on the Telangana issue. Already, Naidu is having trouble with another senior leader, Nagam Janardhan Reddy, who has been making a similar demand.
