Amar Singh fraud case: Accuser claims threat to life
Tripathi claims to have received threats on phone from unlisted numbers.

Kanpur: Shiv Kant Tripathi, who has filed an economic offences case against Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, on Tuesday claimed to have received threats on phone from unlisted numbers.

"I have received several phone calls warning me of dire consequences simply because I dared to lodge a criminal case against Amar Singh for his involvement in a Rs 500 crore scam," Tripathi said.

In his FIR registered with the Babupurwa police station in Kanpur, Tripathi has accused Amar Singh of indulging in a fraud involving inter-transfer of funds between his different pocket companies. He had attached evidence running into almost 1,700 pages to substantiate his charge.

The Uttar Pradesh government, however, chose to refer the case to the Kolkata Police after Amar Singh accused Chief Minister Mayawati of masterminding a "conspiracy" and threatened to launch a counter-offensive against her.

Tripathi, who already moves around with security, said: "Anything can happen to me because I refused to withdraw my complaint against Amar Singh."

He wondered why Amar Singh, who claims to be absolutely clean, was scared of facing an open investigation. "After all, apart from being a big politician, he is also a citizen of the country and is not above law."

To a query about his own alleged involvement in criminal cases, Tripathi said these were all "trivial and false cases in which the police have not even proceeded against me".

"And even if there are such cases against me, how does that give immunity to Amar Singh from the economic offences he has committed?" he asked.

What's your reaction?
