PARADIP: Amidst mounting opposition from anti and pro Posco groups, the South Korean company on Friday opened its site office at Nuagaon. IDCO officials skipped the inauguration that was held without police protection. The ceremony was simple and symbolic with CMD of Posco India, YW Yoon refusing to cut the ribbon. He expressed grief over the death of a worker during the Wednesday clash.Deputy Managing Director Ho Chan Rue, Vice President Vikash Sharan, Director YK Kim, Director and General Manager I G Lee were present. The site office will help expedite all project-related activities, including disbursement of compensation. The only other office at Kujang, about 20 km from the project site, affected coordination with the people.‘Another Steel Co Not Necessary’Paradip: At a Shanti Samabesh organised by the Posco Pratirodha Sangram Samiti (PPSS) at Patana in Dhinkia panchayat, former union minister-cum-BJP leader Braja Kishore Tripathy said there was no necessity to set up Posco project in Odisha as the State produces steel in abundance. The project should be withdrawn immediately from the State, he said.Tripathy claimed that as a BJD MP he had raised the question in Parliament in 2005 regarding establishment of Posco project in Odisha and asked the Prime Minister to clarify about the necessity of the project in Paradip. Birmitrapur legislator George Tirkey was also present.They alleged that police registered false cases against the son of anti-Posco leader Abhay Sahu, former legislator-cum-CPI leader Narayan Reddy and PPSS leader Prasant Paikary who were not present.Congress leader Umesh Swain, Paschim Odisha Farmer’s leader Lingaraj Pradhan, Loka Shakti Abhiyan leader Prafulla Samantray, Jana Andolan leader Akhay Das and CPI leader Narayan Reddy spoke.
