New Delhi: The Calcutta High Court is expected to give its verdict on the bail plea of 5 directors of the AMRI hospital on Friday. A total of 9 directors and four employees were arrested in connection with the fire that claimed over 90 lives.
Up until now, only one of them - Dr Moni Chetri, in whose name the hospital's licence was given - has been granted bail, on medical grounds.
It has been decided to establish six new fire stations at Burrabazar, Garia, Parama Island and Tiljala, in the aftermath of the fire.
Chief Minister Mamata Bannerjee has asked the police to be 'more pro-active' in dealing with such situations.
Burrabazar and Tiljala and Kasba have been rated the most fire-prone commercial zones in the city.
Teams from the Calcutta Municipal Corporation and the fire service department will visit these areas at regular intervals to check if traders are complying with fire safety norms.
