HYDERABAD: A day after Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan’s high-visibility meeting with Jagan Mohan Reddy, he got into trouble with his partymen, with the TDP serving him a show cause notice. However, at a press conference later in the day, the Vijayawada urban unit president declared he would not leave the party and there was no hidden agenda behind his meeting with the YSR Congress Party leader. Vamsi’s clarification came after rumours began to do the rounds that he was very likely to quit the TDP and join hands with Jagan. “I will give a written explanation to party president N Chandrababu Naidu within four days,” Vamsi told reporters in a hurriedly convened press conference in Gannavaram on Saturday night. In the show-cause notice, TDP general secretary Gorantla Butchaiah Chowdary had found fault with Vamsi’s act of hugging Jagan in full public glare. This had sent wrong signals, he said. The party had asked him how he could meet Jagan, whose role was suspected in the Paritala Ravi murder case. Vamsi clarified that he was struck in the traffic jam in Ramavarappadu on Friday and got out of his car to greet his friend Vangaveeti Radhakrishna. “I also wished Jagan, who was in the rally, as a mark of respect. I never hugged Jagan. You can see the video footage of what happened,” Vamsi said while indicating that it was Jagan who hugged him. Vamsi cleared the air after he met his close friend and TDP MLA Kodali Nani in Gudiwada earlier in the day. Both Vamsi and Nani were followers of TDP Rajya Sabha member N Harikrishna. It seems that TDP used Nani to prevail upon Vamsi who later declared that he had no hidden agenda in meeting Jagan. However, the episode exposed the differences in the Krishna district TDP. Vamsi’s episode also exposed the efforts of YSRC to lure potential Kamma leaders from TDP in Guntur and Krishna district to gain political advantage in 2014 elections.
