MALAPPURAM: As the results of the Kerala State Engineering Entrance Examination are out, Malappuram is again throwing parties. Jafer Thattarathody, who belongs to Othukkungal in the district, has bagged the second rank in the examination with a 950.1344 score. Despite getting into the list of the toppers, he gives all the credit to God for his achievement. It was an unexpected rank for Jafer, who was all set to take up his engineering education at IIT Madras in Electrical Engineering. Incidentally, this second rank holder in the engineering entrance and Irfan V, the first rank holder of medical entrance happen to be distant neighbours. Like Irfan, Jafer also made the achievement in his second attempt. Like him, Jafer too completed his higher secondary education from a government school, the Government Raja’s Higher Secondary School Kottakkal in 2010. He scored 301th rank in his first confrontation with the state entrance. Not contented with a three digit figure, he spent a complete year for preparations with guidance from a local private coaching centre coupled with his own strenuous efforts to take up his second fight with the entrance hurdles this year. However, a second rank in the State Engineering entrance does not let his decisions to sway. He is all well and contended with the 553th rank in the Joint Entrance Examination to the Indian Institutes of Technology. His parents, Kunjarumutty who is working in an automobile shop in Othukkungal and Asiya, knew no bounds for their happiness as their elder son made a unique achievement. Jafer has two younger sisters and two younger brothers. Apart from his passion for Engineering, Jafer loves playing cricket than anything.
