New Delhi: The World's Fastest Indian isn't about Milkha Singh neither is it about PT Usha.
This Anthony Hopkins starrer depicts the life of a New Zealander who sets a world record while chasing his dream.
Anthony Hopkins plays Burt Munro, a New Zealander who dreams of racing his 1920 Indian Scout motorcycle on Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats.
Munro takes a motorcycle and spends his time after retirement rebuilding the bike and following his dream.
He finally makes it to Bonneville and sets a world speed record that stands even today.
Hopkins says that the bond of familiarity that he shared with the character he played in the movie was astounding.
"The sense of fun he has with life and with people - I think I am like that. I enjoy being with people and I am very much a loner. I enjoy living my own life, going where I want to go and doing what I want to do, and that is what I like about Burt," says he.
For director Roger Donaldson the film is a culmination of a dream he has held for more than 30 years.
Donaldson made a documentary about Munro in 1972, but when it was aired on TV, he felt that the documentary did not do justice to the talented man.
Donaldson had earlier worked with Hopkins on the 1984 film The Bounty, and the actor is happy about getting back to the independent film circuit.
"The enjoyment of making an independent film this way is that there isn't much money. Infact the money was pulled half way. The great feeling about that is that you are in it together. If the weather is bad, I am there with Roger looking at the sky. So come on, let's shoot it. Come on the set every morning with enthusiasm and say lets go," says Hopkins.
After facing several financial setbacks, the film The World's fastest Indian will finally open in US theatres on February 4, 2006.
