Anubrata Mondal Loses 30 Kg In Tihar Jail: Transformed ‘Tiger Of Birbhum’ May Be Out On Bail On Monday
On September 20, Anubrata Mondal secured bail in the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) money laundering investigation. He is likely to be released from Tihar jail on September 23

Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal, often called the ‘Tiger of Birbhum’ is likely to step out of Tihar jail as a different man – 30 kg lighter, with fewer health issues.

On July 30, the apex court granted him regular bail in the Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) cattle smuggling case. On September 20, Mondal also secured bail in the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) money laundering investigation. He is likely to be released from Tihar jail on September 23.

ARRESTED BY CBI IN AUGUST 2022

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had arrested Mondal in August 2022 in connection with a high-profile cattle smuggling case. Mondal’s arrest in 2022 had sent shockwaves through Bengal’s political landscape. A key player in the TMC, he was known for his strong influence, especially in Birbhum.

Allegations against Mondal suggested his involvement in a cross-border smuggling network, which prompted the CBI to take him into custody for further investigation.

In November 2022, the ED took over, accusing him of money laundering in the same case. Following several months of investigations, the ED transferred Mondal to Delhi in March 2023, where he has been lodged in Tihar jail ever since.

THE TRANSFORMATION

Mondal has shed 30 kg since his incarceration. In addition to the substantial weight loss, his legal team and associates reported that several of his health conditions, including his prostate-related issues, have shown marked improvement.

This transformation, according to some sources, comes not only as a result of his time away from the political hustle, but also due to the disciplined routine of jail life, and high-end treatments from AIIMS and RML hospital of the national capital.

THE RETURN TO WEST BENGAL

Mondal’s legal battles have been closely followed by both his supporters and detractors. Sources said Mondal is likely to return to his region as soon as he gets out. This development has fuelled speculation about his potential return to West Bengal’s political arena, with many wondering if his newfound fitness and health will rejuvenate his role in the state’s political landscape.

Mondal’s return to West Bengal could carry significant political implications, especially in light of the upcoming state elections. Supporters of Mondal, particularly from the TMC, have expressed enthusiasm about his potential return.

According to sources, his return could rejuvenate his supporters, thus impacting the state’s politics.
