HYDERABAD: The state government has decided to write to All-India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) asking them not to permit any more new colleges or additional seats in engineering, MCA and MBA courses in the state for the next academic year as large number of seats remained vacant in these three courses this year.Representative of Consortium of Professional Colleges of Andhra Pradesh met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy here on Tuesday and submitted a memorandum in this regard. Responding to their request, Kiran Reddy said they would write to AICTE asking them not permit new colleges or seats for at least one year.Speaking to Express president of the Consortium and chairman of Nova Engineering College, Krishna Rao said that they met the chief minister asking him not to permit either new seats or colleges for the next five years."But the chief minister promised told us that they have decided against giving permissions only for a year,” he said.In the memorandum, the consortium members said that as many as 1.45 lakh engineering seats remained vacant out of a total 3.25 lakh seats available in 725 colleges in both convener and management quota in the state after spot admissions.The AICTE recently wrote to the state government to send them a detailed report on the vacant number of seats.The members of Consortium also urged the chief minister to release the fee reimbursement dues of the first quarter in November.
