Assam ballot counting begins at eight hours (IST) amidst tight security across the state to reveal fate of 997 candidates.

Guwahati: Congress was leading in 10 constituencies, AGP in eight, BJP in three and others in six of the 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam in the first trends available as the counting began on Thursday.

Former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta (AGP-P) was leading by 1,000 votes over his nearest rival in Bahrampur constituency.

Rabiram Narzary (Ind) was leading Promila Rani Brahma (Ind) by 2000 votes in Kokrajhar East constituency in Assam.

In Samaguri Assembly constituency, Minister of State for Home and Congress candidate Rockybul Hussain was trailing behind his AGP rival Atul Kumar Sarma by 1000 votes.

In Dhing, Dr Idris Ali (Congress) was leading over AUDF rival Mubarak Ali Pathan. In Sidli, the independent candidate Louis Islary was leading over another independent Chandan Brahma by 1000 votes.

Bidya Sing Engleng (Cong) was leading by 2000 votes in Diphu while in Baithalangso, Holiram Terang (ASDC-U) was leading by 1000 votes.

In Howraghat, Rabi Kumar Phangcho (CPI-ML) is leading.

Pradip Hazarika of AGP was leading over his Congress rival Anjan Dutta by 500 votes in Amguri. In Mahmara, Sarat Saikia of Congress was leading by 1000 votes over his AGP rival Hiranya Kumar Konwar.

In Sibsagar, Pranab Gogoi (Cong) was leading by 500 votes over his CPI rival Promod Chandra Gogoi.
