CHENNAI: A Bangalore-based couple was arrested, and two women involved in prostitution were rescued, near Egmore Railway Station on Friday. Sleuths of the Anti-Vice Squad said that the couple followed an unusual mode of operation by staying with the young girls in hotels claiming to be family members. Police said they acted on a tip-off and made a phone call to a specific mobile claiming to be customers. A woman picked up the call and gave details about the car she was travelling in and asked the customer to reach a place near Egmore Railway Station with money. A plain clothes policeman posed as a customer in a luxury car. A police team followed the decoy cop and confirmed that the Bangalore-based couple - Joseph (37) and Jayanthi (35) - were involved in prostitution. The two were held and the two girls rescued. The car used by the pimps with Karnataka registration was also seized.“They referred to the girls as ‘piece’ and most of their customers would be well-off software engineers and businessmen,” said a source at AVS.
