Taslima Nasreen was attacked by Muslim activists in Hyderabad on Thursday.

Kolkata: Consequent to the attack on Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen in Hyderabad, the West Bengal Government today decided to review her security arrangements in Kolkata.

''The Government is going to review her security,'' home secretary Prasad Ranjan Ray said at the State Secretariat.

Ray also informed that the Union Home Ministry had extended the period of visa by another six months for Nasreen, who made Kolkata her second home after being forced to leave Bangladesh following an Islamic fatwa (order) issued against her by the Islamic clerics.

However, Nasreen had sought Indian citizenship to settle down in the country permanently.

The writer, who had already incurred the wrath of certain fundamentalist groups by her writings on the issues of religion, feminism and sexuality, was injured in an attack by the members of the All India Majilis-E-Itihadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), at Hyderabad Press Club earlier in the day.

Tense situation prevailed in Somajiguda area of the city as the activists, led by MLA Ahamad Pasha Quadri, barged into the Press Club and raised slogans against her.

What's your reaction?
