BHU student found dead in hostel room

A Ph.D student at Banaras Hindu University was on Wednesday found dead under mysterious circumstances in his hostel room, police said.

According to police, Rahul Prajapati, who was pursuing his doctorate in chemistry, was found dead in his room in BHU's Aiyer hostel. He hailed from the Shahganj area of Jaunpur district in Uttar Pradesh.

After Prajapati failed to emerge from his room till late Wednesday morning, his fellow inmates at the hostel informed senior authorities who then forced open the door to his room only to find his body on the bed.

Police said that prima facie, the case appeared to be one of suicide, although they added that the matter could be properly ascertained only after a post-mortem.
