Patna: The political crisis in Bihar is reaching its crescendo as a day before the crucial floor test, state Assembly Speaker Udai Narain Choudhary notified Vijay Chaudhary of Janata Dal (United) (Nitish camp) as Leader of Opposition replacing Nand Kishore Yadav of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BJP MLAs protested outside Assembly Speaker's chamber in Patna on Thursday to protest the removal of BJP leader Nand Kishore Yadav as the Leader of Opposition.

The development comes a day before Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi is to prove his majority on the floor of the House. Manjhi has called for a Cabinet meeting at 5 pm on Thursday.

Claiming support of majority of MLAs, Manjhi is likely to organise a show of strength of those who support him. He will also hold a Dalit rally this afternoon.

With the trust vote slated to take place on Friday, both Manjhi and Nitish Kumar are in talks with local MLAs to secure their support. After a walkout by BJP at an all-party meeting on Wednesday, the Speaker allowed Nitish Kumar's faction to occupy the Opposition benches during the trust vote.

Meanwhile, in a related development, JDU (Nitish camp) released clips of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Lok Sabha MP Pappu Yadav trying to lure JDU MLA Shafuddin into Manjhi camp.

Speaking on all the developments, BJP leader in charge of Bihar Sidhharthnath Singh said, "Let us wait for the next 24 hours. Let us wait and watch. This all is an outcome of greed of Nitish Kumar."

Sources said the BJP is likely to take a final decision on supporting Manjhi on Thursday evening or Friday morning. Most BJP MLAs in Bihar favoured supporting Manjhi. The views were expressed in the BJP Legislature Party meeting in Patna held on Wednesday.

Most of the MLAs were of the view that the party should support Manjhi eyeing the vote bank of Mahadalit. The MLAs also wanted an announcement to be made before the test.
