THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The city-based nature lovers’ organisation, Warblers and Waders, will be conducting a two-day bird watching training camp at Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary on August 13 and 14. Those who are physically fit for those long treks through the forest and have an interest in birds can join in. The Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary, situated in Kollam district, is one of the richest biodiversity areas in Western Ghats with as many 266 recorded species of birds. The highest bird presence was recorded at Kattillappara forest region, which is frequented by bird watchers. Some of the important and interesting birds sighted from this area include the Dollar Bird, the Blue-bearded Bee-eater, Great Black Woodpecker,White-bellied Blue Flycatcher,Grey-headed Bulbul and Malabar Trogon, among others. Those going on the trip will have to keep off brightly coloured clothing as well as strong scents such as perfumes and aftershaves, which will send the birds away. The fees for the two-day camp has been fixed at Rs 600. Those who are interested in joining the camp should register their names with the programme co-ordinators of the event as soon as possible and not later than August 8.
