HYDERABAD: BJP national spokesperson and MP Shahnawaz Hussain has alleged the UPA government has brought the FDI issue into picture to sidetrack hike in prices of essentials and black money. Speaking to reporters at the state party office here on Sunday, he demanded the UPA government to allow a debate in Parliament on the issue of black money stashed in Swiss banks and price hike. He said there were 700 accounts in Swiss banks among which three MPs had accounts.
He also said though there was no demand from public and small traders, the UPA was trying to bring in FDI in retail sector. Shahnawaz alleged that to protect the US and Europe from recession the Congress government is allowing FDI into retail. He also said the UPA government was itself trying to stall the Parliament and searching all possible ways to escape from the Opposition.Playing down the defeat in the Bellary Assembly bypoll in Karnataka, the BJP MP said it was a local election and had no relevance at the state level.

"Bellary was a local election. The candidate was in BJP and now contested as an independent. It is not correct to link that with entire Karnataka," he told reporters here.

Speaking on the Telangana issue, he said the Centre was deliberately delaying taking decision on Telangana. He also said the BJP stood by its commitment to favour smaller states and his party would continue agitations till Telangana state is formed. To a query, he said BJP wanted a strong Lokpal and was making efforts in that direction both in Parliament and outside it.

BJP state president G Kishen Reddy, former Union ministers B Dattatreya, A Narendra and others were present.
