New Delhi: A bombscare at a public school in the high-security Chanakyapuri locality of the Capital turned out a hoax after police evacuated and scoured the premises on an anonymous call warning that explosives have been planted there.
The search at the Naval Public School began at around 0930 hrs (IST) after school authorities informed police that they have received an anonymous threatening call, a senior police official said.
Bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs were rushed to the school and the building was emptied immediately.
Around 1,600 students, teachers and staff were present there at the time of
the incident.
However, no explosive substances were found during the two-hour search after which the call was declared a hoax. Police have launched an investigation to trace the mischief-maker.
A series of false phone calls, most of them pranks by adolescents, in the last one month had triggered searches at the India Gate, AIIMS, Akshardham Temple, PVR Plaza, Gurdwara Sis Ganj, Red Fort and Satyam theatre.
Police have also arrested several people for making hoax calls, which became a routine affair after the terror attacks in Mumbai on July 11.
