Melbourne: A note warning that a bomb would explode on a Chinese airliner bound for Sydney triggered fears of a terror plot forcing the pilot to return to Guangzhou in China for an emergency landing.
Passengers were one hour into a China Southern Airlines flight from Guangzhou to Sydney when the note was found warning of a bomb on board the plane, a news channel reported.
Coming as it did in the wake of the alleged terror plot to blow up ten US-bound airliners earlier this month, the incident raised the hackles of flight crew.
The note forced the pilot to take emergency action and return to Guangzhou, a media report said.
"They dumped all the fuel. Then all the lights went out. But no one knew what was happening," said Australian passenger Jason Harper. "Then we landed and there about 20 police cars and fire engines and stuff everywhere."
Passengers were later interviewed by authorities for two hours before they could resume the journey.
