Lucknow: The younger brother of suspended BRD Hospital doctor Kafeel Khan was shot at by unidentified bike-borne men near Gorakhpur's JP Hospital Gorakhdham overbridge.
Thirty-four-year-old Kashif Jameel suffered three bullet injuries on his upper arm, neck and chin late on Sunday evening, and was immediately rushed to a local hospital.
Suspecting a foul play, Dr Kafeel Khan said, “My brother has been shot at. I always knew they would try to kill us."
Khan was the head of the encephalitis ward at BRD Medical College when over 60 children died allegedly due to oxygen shortage. The paediatrician, one of the accused among nine doctors, was charged under 120-B, 308 and 409 of the IPC by the office of DG Medical Education. However, Khan was later hailed as a ‘hero’ after it came to light that he had immediately swung into action and saved lives of some children when the oxygen was disrupted.
The Gorakhpur doctor was granted bail by Justice Yashwant Verma after spending seven months in jail. Justice Verma, while granting bail said that since the chargesheet has already been filed in the case, and there was no need of custody. Dr Khan’s family had applied for bail on six different occasions in the past seven months.
The police have already dropped charges of corruption and private practice against the doctor.
