It commands one of the highest property prices in the city and is largely cosmopolitan in nature. With the construction of the latest bus depot on 80 Feet Road, the residents of Koramangala can only hope for better traffic management and bus networking.City Express takes a walk through the bus depot and finds out what facilities it has in store for commuters as well as residents.Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) operates buses from various points of the city. With almost all intra-city buses departing and arriving at the Koramangala bus stand, residents as well as commuters can now breathe a sigh of relief with the latest depot. Said Prabhu Das, chief traffic manager, “Well, the Koramangala bus depot is well built and situated at a prime location. The ground floor of the depot is the bus stand where buses will ply to and from different parts of the city. The basement has a parking facility for four wheelers. With this depot we aim to optimise vehicular traffic management in the area.” Anchala Gupta, a commuter, too feels that traffic will be much more organised and structured with the new depot.“I have been living in Koramangala for the past three years. And, the traffic jams at the Sony World junction is horrible to say the least especially at peak hours. With buses plying in an organised fashion now, lets hope things get better,” she added.“We are also proposing to lease out some of the upper floors for commercial purposes. There will be a cafeteria on the ground floor too.The depot can house about one hundred fifty buses with each bus undertaking 1400 - 1500 trips. Signborads and the timetable or schedule for each bus is displayed in the lobby, for the benefit of commuters,’’ said Das. He further added, “Apart from this, a waiting lounge will also be provided. We are also thinking of providing one or two shops at the depot. A Class three traffic inspector will be stationed at the depot at all times to address all queries. As of now, a class two officer is also stationed at the depot,” Prabhu Das further added.
